Default Im thinking fuel issues

Light I have a 93 f-150 with a 4.9 straight 6. When ever I get down to a 1/4 tank it chugs and throws a fit at lights and continues until I reach 4th gear. After I put fuel in the fits and chugging continues for about 15miles then she runs like a champ again. I am going to school to be a diesel tech. But I do know may way around a gas engine except the fuel delivery system. Any suggestions?

Thank you!

How would I go bout checking that? Sorry I'm used to working with lift pumps mounted to the block. I've never worked with in tank pumps.

That would be your truck running out of gas. None of these trucks have a working gas gauge unless the new owner fixed it.
