Default ignition switch

Hey y'all, so my 1990 f-150 custom (5.0L 302, E4OD) does not want to run. I turn the key to start and when I release it, the key falls back to the "off" position. Naturally, I replaced the ignition switch, and I'm still having the same problem. The ignition rod(?) On top of the steering column appears to be in decent shape and I can't figure out what it could be. I prefer not to throw parts at it, and could use some friendly advice!

Mine was the rod or actuator whatever you call it, just follow the path of the rod from the key all the way down and see if you notice anything. turn the key and see what is all happening when it falls back while you look at the rod and assembly

why dont you try push the rod down with a vise grip or something and see if it starts then?

When you replaced the switch, did you test it before you put it back on the column? Unbolt it and use a screwdriver to slide it to the start position. I had to play with it a bit to get it in just the right spot. The actuator rod is a PITA to change but you can cheat and modify it so you don't have to pull the tilt mechanism apart. There is a youtube video that shows how...totally worth it.

I got a push button start. Super super easy to install. I made mine where I still have to turn my truck on so people can't steal it without the key.

My truck was done the same way. Was done by one of the previous owners though.
