Default I6 Split manifold difference

How do yo know the difference? I tried looking and can't properly see right at the manifold, but also, wasn't really looking hard. Was under the truck adjusting tie rod and have 2 pipes coming from direction of manifold going into the first cat. That is what drug up the question if I did. Forgot to check again as I finished the tie rod and went for test drive.

Another question is, when I finally get something done with exhaust, is it worth removing the cat and keeping that dual pipe going out and 45ing before the tire? More importantly, anyone done this? In Michigan, no emissions test. I eventually HAVE to fix the exhaust cuz pipe at muffler is gone and left idling long enough i can smell it in the cab. Mildly not safe..

What do you mean what's the difference? The front one is for the front, the back one is for the back.

Was I aware right some had split manifold exhaust and some didnt?

Basically I must have split manifold with 2 pipes going into the single cat right? Should be no reason the single manifold has two pipes coming down?

I'm not familiar with the single manifold, it's used on carbureted.

you can clearly see its a split manifold...

looking down on the passenger side you can see both flare fittings where the Y-pipe connects and goes into the first CAT... dual pipe into one.

you can do many things...if the pipe is good all the way to the second cat where the original exhaust hooks on then leave that pipe and run new exhaust from there...

you can run just pipe all the way out like original with no muffler and it isnt loud. Tail pipe and all... for a little rumble the back cat needs to go... with both cats in place its still quiet..

My rear cat is still there albeit empty...and I have a 4foot section of straight pipe from the cat to the tail pipe...tail pipe exits at the stock location and the truck sounds great...nice low rumble nothing irritating and nothing to get into trouble with...

Just a word of warning if you remove the first cat get a Y pipe and run single exhust, 300's sound like 4 cyl. ricers with a fart can with dual exhust
