Default Just bought a 95, have some questions.

My first post and I have some questions, I just bought a 1995, F-150 XLT, 4X4, 40k original miles, 5.8 liter, with Auto with OD. I know guy I bought it from, was handed down to him from his father in 2000 and driven maybe 1000 miles a year since then. I have had it less than 12 hours, engine runs real strong, no smoke, no odd sounds, no rust at all, paints perfect, interior looks like new. Color could be better but for $2000 I cant complain. Here are my questions:

1)when driving the 4 wheel low light is slightly illuminated on push button switch, not on dash, isnt bright, just you can tell the light is on. The 4 wheel high switch no light is on. If I push the 4 wheel high, the light comes on and dash 4x4 comes on. I havent tried low yet, not sure how to engage it, so wanted to ask here. I dont have a manual.

2) the shifter indicator doesnt move, so I have to guess what gear I am in by counting, is that a easy fix? Wire?

3)Cruise control, tried pushing on button, and set, nothing happens.

Those are the 3 issues, everything else seems to be like it should. Any help appreciated.

#1, When I engage either 4H or 4L, I'm at full stop with clutch pedal depressed, you being auto, stopped and in neutral would be in order. Not sure when they introduced shift on the fly. The light thing doesn't sound right, when you do try 4L, see if it works properly. Am thinking power is backfeeding thru bulb, (bad ground somewhere).

#2, PRNDL indicator was cable controled, piece of cake to fix. Remove column shroud, and do what is necessary.

#3, Check fuses and what about the old Recall about switch on master cylinder.

Sounds like one heck of a deal on the truck, good luck and have fun.

I shift into 4hi at 2-5 MPH in a straight line.

It shouldn't even let 4LO try to engage unless you're in neutral. And take it easy for a second after you here it to make sure it's engaged.

As for the cruise control, Ford had a recall for electrical fires with the cruise control, so most people unplugged them. They installed a fused wiring harness to fix that problem.

9th and 10th, they all used the same cruise control system. Everything from Bronco to Lincoln navigators.

I have manual locking hubs on mine and not sure if its different then the push button style, but my truck will only go into four low when I'm in neutral.

Trust me.

Read my post. I offroad weekly.

For automatic locking hubs. Be gentle until you know they're locked in. To disengage them, reverse in a straight line for about 10 ft. Will do the job.
