Question Ground issue

I bought a 1992 F150 with a 5.0 a few weeks ago. Most of the truck was original. I have replaced the map,IAC and tps. These sensors either threw a code or tested bad. I also have done a complete tune up and have changed the oxygen sensor. The problem I am having is that the truck just shuts off when I am driving. It doesnt happen all the time and the truck restarts quickly. I have spoken with a few Ford techs told them what is going on and they said to check the body grounds. One ground was damaged and I grabbed the negative cable while the truck is running and while moving the cable the truck shut off. I was wondering if anyone else has had this issue?

There should be a ground in front of the battery check it and clean it. Another in front of the airbox and one on the driver side near the brake booster. Check and clean all of them.

These truck have horrible factory grounds. Upgrade your grounds if at all possible. I did it to my truck and it made a huge difference with electronics and even with how the engine ran. I bought some 4 gauge stereo cable wire and grounded my truck in multiple spots under the hood. Was definitely worth the time and money.

Everything metal is ground, body, frame, engine. They all must be hooked together with ground straps and to the battery negative.

Well today I changed battery, alternator and negative battery cable. I also cleaned all grounds in the engine compartment. I start the truck up and it dies, restart and truck runs well. Then I check for codes and get code 53. This is the second tps I have put in the truck. First one was bad out of the box and the second one was working great till now. I am at a loss on what to do.

Did you check the connector and wiring to the TPS?

As with most all sensors, codes can be thrown due to wiring issues even with a good part. The computer does not know the difference so you need to check all the possibilities before replacing parts. In some cases bad wiring can damage a new part.

Some parts such as the EGR will have vacuum, electrical connections, and down stream solenoids which can throw codes as well.

All the wiring is good for the tps to the computer.I am going to try a different brand for the tps. To answer the question about which grounds in the engine bay go up to 5rangers first post.
