I have a 96 F150 scab with the long bed, 5.8L, 4x4 and 153,000+ miles on it and I recently got 18.79mpg on the highway at 65mph. Granted, it's no hybrid, but what do you want from a fullsize truck?

I've got an 87' 5L/82k 2WD/auto Longbed/stock tire size, !7/23 MPG. 65mph/on hwy. It helps alot if your engine can tolerate further base timing advance. I'm running 16BTDC using 89 octane. Couple of minor upgrades (mostly ignition related). I'll never here the end of this but here goes: 3oz. Pure Acetone /tank of gas. I pay less than $10 bucks for a set of plugs ( Stock Motorcraft Coppers) but I Side Gap them & stretch the gap. Coppers displace heat much more efficiently than Plats, which also aids w/ further timing advancement. They don't last as long as Plats, but Ilike to see what my plugs are doing more than once every 50K anyway.

I get about 11-12MPG in the city. I don't do a whole lot of highway driving to be honest.

Getting used to trying to park that damn long box too haha! But I love the way it feels driving a nice big f150

Here's something everyone should keep in mind, "cold start & warmup mode." For 3-4 months I suddenly dropped from 17/23 mpg to not a foot over 11 miles to a gallon. It was driving me nuts. Then, I took a week off work & drove up to Oregon. I got 19 mpg doing 85 mph w/ a/c on, the bed loaded w/ tools, luggage & a Harley strapped down to it. W/double tanks, I didn't stop for gas or anything else for 650 miles. I finally realized that for those 3-4 months, I never drove more than a mile or two every time I drove my truck. 3/4 mi. to the jobsite. 1 1/2 mi. to home despot, 3/4 mi. home. 6 days a week. Our engines don't adjust air/fuel trim until they reach normal operational temperature (about 190F). So, if your not driving far enough to reach normal op. temp., you never will get over 11 MPG (unless you started at the top of "The Grapevine" w/ damn good brakes). So anyway, keep that in mind next time your swearing at your gas gauge. If most of your driving are short distances, 10-11 mph is par. The problem w/ this type of driving is your injectors start to load up w/ contamination & your combustion chamber surfaces become coated w/ deposits of carbon & residuals of partially detonated fuel resulting from operating in a constant over rich condition. So when you do get out on the open road, The engine can't function optimally! All I can say is this is how I deal w/ this problem. 1 bottle of "Lucas Injection Cleaner" once every 4-5 tanks of gas & 1 can of "Seafoam" though the air intake via the Power Booster Brake Vac Hose prior to each oil change. It's been workin great for me , for almost 20 years now. (You can also pour a can of "Seafoam" in your crankcase to desludge your motor prior to oil change, but that speaks to the general health of the motor & only secondarily to gas milage. Everybody feel better?
