Question Fuel switch help

My 88' has dual tanks, both "supposedly" work, right now it's stuck on the back tank as there is no tank selector switch. The guy I bought the truck from wired in a toggle switch to a frame mounted fuel pump the wire he has going to the back is one of the wires for the tank selector switch, could I wire in another toggle switch for the front tank or do I have to wire in the tank selector switch, also what wire powers what? The wire going to the toggle switch is RED with a YELLOW stripe.

Red/yellow is power from the fuel pump relay. The frame mounted pump gets power regardless of switch position. The rear tank pump wire is brown/white and the front tank pump wire is red. You could wire in separate toggles for the tanks by using red/yellow as power for both toggles, but better would be to fix the switch. The switch also controls the gas gauge, as in this selected tank has this much fuel so your gas gauge probably isn't working how its wired now.

When you flick the toggle switch to the up position it starts pumping fuel, when you flick it down it doesn't and the motor dies.

I guess what i'm trying to say is being the toggle switch makes it pump the fuel could I wire in the selector switch with all the wires BUT the red and yellow and it still switch the tanks and pump gas from the front with said toggle switch? Cause it won't pump gas without that toggle switch.

If the red/yellow isn't getting power with the key on then that's why the selector switch isn't working.

It gets power without the key on. It's kinda complicated, what i'm trying to say is could I leave the toggle switch to pump the fuel wired in to the red and yellow wire, and wire in a selector switch (without that wire) and it still switch between the tanks. Would I also have to wire in a seperate toggle switch to pump fuel from the front tank or will this one pump work for both?

I have no idea what you're trying to do. You should fix it right.
