exhaust pricing
so i went to an exhaust shop today to see how much it cost for me to get true duals put on with 2.5" piping. they told me that with labor the piping alone would be $500. then i have to buy two cats and two mufflers, as well as tips. plus they wanted another $225 just to put the headers on. i thought this seemed pretty high. does this sound right to anyone? im in the philadelphia area if that matters at all. also the truck is a 93 flareside. thanks guys

Imo, you'd be getting screwd over bad. I just ran true duals with completely new pipe and new 18" glasspacks for like 150 at my local shop. Check around at other places and don't be afraid to check out the small ind. Ownde shops either, cause they usually don't mark up near that much. To sum it up, that's a crappy deal. Look in lmc, they have kits to run for like 200 or so.

Cats add a lot to the cost. Without cats the price should be around $250 for a decent deal. They use universal stuff and can tweak it with the bender. My '72 LeMans needed mufflers and a tailpipe. He used a tailpipe right off the shelf, and the cost of the tailpipe was $30. I got a set of used stainless steel mufflers from the guy and was out of there for $100.

Heartthrob makes a complete dual kit that is pretty decent. Iwould be a direct bolt on if you hace manifolds and you can choose if you want the pipes straight out the back or 45'd behind the rear wheel. The biggest disadvantage is it only available with 2.25" pipe. 2.25" isn't bad at all especially when most people are replcing with single 3" and harp about how great it is. Dual 2.25" will out flow a single 3" anytime in every situation and it costs about $190.00 without mufflers or $230.00 with glasspacks.
Oh yea- these are mandrel bent pipes and you local shop most likely can't do mandrel bends. A 2.25" manfrel bent exhaust will flow as well if not better than a 2.5" crush bent exhaust.
