I have a 4.9 with a thrush glass pack in place of the muffler I'm wondering if a shorter glass pack will sound better. Or what I gotta do to make it sound good with out having to spend a lot. Give me your opinions

Hello and good morning.

A 12" Glass Pack will make it louder and a bit throaty. Eliminating(gutting)the Cat will also give it a deeper tone.

Way back when I was in High School the "low-riders" would get the Glass Pack very hot and use a garden hose injecting water into the tailpipes burning the glass which would give them a great sound when revving and letting off the accelerator.

A bit risky but worth it to them back then.

The glass pack that's on it is about 30 in. Would a shorter one make a bigger diff?

That's a rare truck. I didn't even know Ford made a 4.9 v6!

I don't think you'll get a good sound out of it any way you look at it. Probably best that it's quiet. But if you want to try, why not just take the muffler off and straight-pipe it? Cheap to try it out.

not sure what brand mine are since they were installed by previous owner but they have a nice tone. loud on the highway, a little quieter idling and no annoying crackle like straight pipes

Myself and others are running no muffler with the cats in place and I personally love the sound. Throaty tractor(ish) sound. Your factory pipe includes all of the bends needed to cut and turn the tail pipe out in front of the right rear tire. The I6 with no muffler is very surprisingly quiet at idle and to me and a few others, sounds great on acceleration and driving down the road. No need to spend money on a muffler. I've had my truck inspected three times now since doing the muffler delete and the inspection stations have yet to realize there is no muffler on my truck.
