Could a guy put a new 2010 motor in a 1989 f150? Would this ever work? I have a line on a new motor CHEAP... Love my old style truck.. Could this even be done?

Possible? With the engine and transmission, along with all the wiring and electronics you'd at least have a start. From there you'd have to start with what physically fits in the engine bay and what doesn't. Some of the newer motors are shockingly large, like the Ecoboost with the turbo layout.

I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole unless I had a shop, months of downtime, and an unlimited budget for sorting out details.

You can put any motor in anything as long as you have the time and money to do so. At a glance you would probably have to make engine mounting brackets and use a modern ECU or Megasquirt. The bell housing for the transmission could also be a limiting factor.

Anything is possible, but will require ALOT of work. New engine mounts, transmission mounts, trans and cross members, wiring harness, electronic systems, fuel systems, probably a new dash and lots of beer to drink when you scratch your head saying "Now where does that go?"

All it takes is cutting/welding/fabricating and you could stuff a 502 on a bicycle if you wanted to...

Do you NEED a reliable vehicle?

Do you NEED this vehicle any time soon?

Do you have a limited amount of income to throw at this project?

Do you have a limited amount of tools?

If you answered yes to any of those questions, i would look into other options.

Stay with the pushrod engine. You could build more power and they are more reliable, the only thing about the new engines is economy and lesser emissions.
