Some idiot cut up the perfect dash to put in a CD player before I got it. I wouldn't have cut it myself but do appreciate that I can have a CD player when I finally put a radio back in it. The K5 plays cassettes though.

well i appreciate all the replies but some how everyone that replied forgot wtf i was asking. im with you southern. i dont like **** i have to mess with every weekend.and chase down sensor after sensor. the map setup is garbage. and yes if i wanted to keep it efi i would do the maf swap. its not going to cost me much to do the carb conv as i have all the parts just wanted to know about a stand alone trans controler. so now if carbs were such a step back into the stone age then i fint it amusing that 90 percent of race cars, drag cars, hot rods motorcycles use carbs, hmm ironic. anywho i know you guys just like razzing people if its something that your opinion deems UNACCEPTABLE. but carbs are just as efficient if tuned correctly.

No carbs are not as efficient as fuel injecton, that's why they don't use them anymore. Race cars use carbs because most racing classes don't allow EFI.

I hope you have everything because you can't use the ignition system and the carbed years ignition sucks. And the transmission controller will be more expensive than all the other stuff you need to make it carbed. Aftermarket pressure regulator or mechanical fuel pump. Rewire the fuel pump.

Unless somebody rigged it, no it doesn't. If it runs constantly with the engine off and it isn't rigged, that's one reason it isn't running well. If it is rigged, it needs to be rigged correctly.

To be completely honest here, It has been so long since I did the swap to my 2nd stang that I cannot remember all the things I had to do to get it all right. I knew less than nothing about how efi worked then and I was just a dumbass 20 something who didn't feel like "learning"...hehe. Your average car guy can pull it off. It's your ride, do what you want.
My old stang was a 5 speed so there was no trans cpu to deal with at the time for me.

If you're eliminating the engine computer why even bother keeping the computer controlled tranny? You could get a junkyard AOD for the price of a stand alone computer.

I second going the route of an AOD swap. Go to a junkyard and pick one out of a 4x4 f150 or bronco. I don't know for sure, but I think early 4x4 explorers used AODs as well. You might need to grab whatever is necessary for mounting up the TV cable too.

That would definitely be cheaper. Last time I picked up an AOD from the local yard (2 months ago) it was $90 plus core (no extra charge for the converter).
