my friends dad works in a machine shop. i had him go through my heads. timing set is new and in there like it's supposed to be. but i think the dist is a little off. with the backfiring and popping, it has to be. ill put a timing light on it tomorrow and see whats up with it and go from there.

ok. it's timed. but stopped firing. nothing. just stopped. it has fire going from the coil to the dist, but nothing to the plugs. im thinking either the pip or the module on the side of the dist. any thoughts?

Put a test light or meter on the trigger side of the coil to see if its getting an on/off signal when cranking. The computer should at least give the 111 code if all is well. No codes is not good.
Is the fuel pump running all the time or only a few seconds when the ignition is turned on?

its got to be the cap or rotor, unless you broke the dizzy shaft and the rotor will not spin.

all the pip and stuff does is electronically adjust the timing it will not prevent spark from flowing from the coil to the plugs.

pump is always on. it acts like the computer is dead, but it has a brand new one and that didnt change anything. and no, i didnt break the distributor. even acting like it has a dead computer, it ran before all this. the pump has run constantly since ive had it. it just stopped wanting to fire. went back to it this morning, and it ran. then it died. wouldnt fire. i stopped long enough to smoke a cigarette, and went back and it ran. i shut it off. and no fire again when i went to start it again. what can cause this?
