Default Clock display

My clock display on my radio (1989) is barely visible both in the night and day. you have to look real close and take awhile to distinguish the numbers. What is causing this. Is it fixable or should a pull a new one from the junkyard.

I've got 50 watts each to the factory door speakers. They sound great.
