Have you checked the oxygen sensor? Very common problem, but it should post a code. Had this problem with on/off engine light & that was it.

If the AOD light is flashing, doesn't that mean the trans is throwing a code? Not sure to me but makes sense.

cats are more then likely plugged. that would throw a code to the 02 sensors.

If the computer won't go into diagnostic then the computer is usually bad.

thanks guys for all the info I replace o2 sensors changed the catts that was a previous problem I've had this truck for 7 years It has 219k I started having this problem around 190k on then my tranny went so I started to replace everything kinda restoring the truck. It was alot cheaper than buying someone else's $5,000.00 headache so the only thing I didn't replace was the computer and some relays it has a rebuilt motor and trans with all new sensors. I think Sean is right plus I think its the only thing I haven't replace yet oh yeah I finally got a code it was 211 pip erratic whats the pip and where is it

211= PIP circuit failure.
The PIP is the sensor in the distributor that tells the computer when to fire each cylinder. The distributor must be disassembled to change it. I have found that it's easier to just change the distributor. Be sure to test the circuit for power and signal before assuming the sensor is bad.
