Unhappy check engine light please help

Ok so i just bought my first truck back and it has a check engine light when i took it to advance auto to get it checked out and the scanner would power up but wouldnt read code and when he plugged it in the truck would idle up and down till he unplugged it. the truck has no power and is just running on limp mode any help would be great? thanks

Try pulling codes using the instructions in the sticky at the top of this section.

If its in limp mode, it could be a problem with either fuel injection, or you might have a missfiring cylinder.

ok then y doesnt the scanner show me any codes? and i new to site what sticky do u mean?

the fact that the scanner cant pull the code might just be the scanner. try to take it some where else. if that doesnt work, your problem might also be the computer.
