bench testing an amp?
so i got this amp and sub free. i know the sub works. i dont know how loud it will go though. i just got an amp for free. im not sure if it works. i'd like to bench test it. i know i need a 12 v battery, wire, inline fuse, the amp(obviously), and a stereo and speakers i guess. its a Alpine 3527V. you can look it up on google gets you some more info on it. now i need like a wiring diagram for this. and can i use my kenwood stereo from my inside my house or does it have to be a car stereo? ive never dealt with audio really other than putting in a new deck and speakers. help would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance guys!
I think you're better off just installing it in the truck instead if dealing with making an entire 12v test station. The truck itself already has most of the parts listed...just make a temporary setup with it.
The amp should have its own fuse, so for testing purposes you can skip the inline fuse. Power and remote to battery positive and ground to ground (of course). You need to use the preouts on a car stereo because they are low output, unless your house stereo has low outputs for an amp driven channel. Then hook up the speakers. If you only have one speaker then bridge it.
what if i just wanna test my sub? cuz my house stereo has a sub preout. which is all i want to test too is my sub. cuz if this works and i put it in my truck, all the amp will be powering is the sub. my deck can power my speakers
i got 4 RCA ports on my amp, those are the input from my sub pre out on my stereo, correct? then i have 4 channels(the screw clamping type), those are my output to my speakers correct?
well you have to hook the amp to a battery - and + and also a remote turn on. this tells the amp to turn on or off when your radio is on or off. this wire goes from the back of the radio to the amp. i dont know how you would make one for testing.

Hooking the remote to the positive of the battery turns the amp on. That's fine for testing.
The RCAs should be marked "low in". Yes, in from the radio RCAs. Depending on the radio you can have several low outs and also RCA inputs for stuff like CD changers. The screw terminals are for the speakers, signal out.

well it works. and it works good enough for my free sub! i bridged 2 channels. it will pump decent. the only thing is, its a big 12 inch sub. (alpine type R). its not a shallow one. so i have no idea were im gonna put this thing.
