You're supposed to run your a/c a minimum of 15 minutes a month to prevent problems later.

Does it sound like the belt? The a/c compressor is the hardest accessory to turn.

Even if the refigerant were low, you wouldn't be hearing metal on metal. There is something happening there.

it could be the compresor bearing they get dry inside during cold weather. if u been using the heater and defroze . compressor should turn on couple times to reduced moister. so even if u havent use ac at all compressor been on some times.

ya I have heard the compressor kick on a few times when running heat and defrost.

If I add some ac compressor oil to the system, do ya think it might help.

No the oil in the system its to lube the pistons and moving parts in compressor. and keep other parts in system lube. the compressor bearing its outside. behind the clutch. if u can remobe the belt and spind the pulley see if u can heard or feel the bearing

never know , u can be the lucky one to get the bad new part. check it. remove the belt and see if still spinning free. if something its wrong with bearing u should be able to feel or heard. also u can check the compressor. turn the ignition key to run , but dont start the engine. turn AC on . that should energize the cluch then u can spin the pulley and see how it works . samething u can feel if something its wrong inside the compressor when u spin it.
