X2 on this tool. One of the best tool investments I have made for my truck.

Oddly enough, after looking at the link, I remembered that I had bought a scanner for my 85 ranger back in about 95. I dug through my storage shed today and sure enough, I covers this truck too. I haven't used it since I sold the ranger in 97 but the 9 volt battery in it was still alive (I replaced it anyway though). I haven't had time yet to hook it up but should get that done tomorrow. I bought new roll pins and a drift punch today.

OK. Here's the latest. Put in the stator. No spark. Replaced the coil. No spark. Bought the 5 year alldata subscription. No spark. I'm going to start from the beginning with the alldata tests. Now I will know which pin is pin 3 on the tfi connector so that should help.

You checked for spark out of the distributor, & spark out of coil separately?

No, just out of coil. I assume if its not getting out of the coil then it can't get out of the distributer.

Sounds like no power to coil.

Yeah, that's what I thought too, but I tested it multiple times. But then again I tested the TFI twice as well, but decided to change it out today anyway since it was the only components I hadn't changed. Truck fired to life (only to sputter, backfire, and die, but I now have spark ). With the number of times I had the distributer out, I'm sure ill have to time it. Thanks everyone for the input.

On to the next problem. Does anyone know of a good way to drain the tank? I thought it was empty when I got it (sitting two years prior) so I put 5 gallons in. Then, once I got it started it registers half a tank and runs like the gas is really bad. I put a can of seafoam in, but I think the fuel is just too bad. I tried to get a hose down the filler but it didn't seem to want to go the last bit down into the tank. I'd rather not pull the tank if I don't have to.

Here is what my Ford shop manual says:

For Aft axle tanks-

"Siphon the fuel from the tank into a suitable container at the fuel from the tank into a suitable container at the hose between the fuel pump and the fuel tube."

For Midship tanks-

"Drain the fuel into a container by siphoning through the fuel hose at the fuel pump-to-fuel tube connection."

Hope this helps

It sure does. I assumed an in tank pump that I wouldn't be able to siphon through. Thanks.
