5.8l problems
i had a thread about a month ago having vacuum problems and other stuff and now that i have that stuff fixed, my truck idles pretty good but when i pump the throttle, it will pop in the intake. does this mean that my timing is off? do i not have the firing order correct? is it the TPS or IAC? any ideas anyone?
Thanks
Thanks
New plugs, wires, cap, rotor?
Have you double and triple checked to be sure the firing order is right, and that the dist cap is mounted right?
Is it giving you any codes for running rich or lean?

i have new plugs, the wires and cap and rotor look good, i need to check the firing order again, i dont think it is running rich or lean anymore, it was running super rich before i restuck the distributor, what will it do if it is 180 degrees out? what i dont get is that it will actually idle now, it wouldnt do that before i fixed the firing order and restuck the distributor, i just dont understand why that it is popping, i will doublecheck my firing order and go from there i guess. how would i know if it is running rich or lean?
thanks
If you pull the codes, your O2 sensor will tell you if it's running rich or lean.
Do you have a haynes or chilton manual? If not, this link will help:

Just make sure the dist cap is oriented correctly and that the plug wires are all routed to the right place for your motor. It could be a timing issue too. Did you pull the entire distributor? If you didn't matchmark it at the base, it could be a little off. If you don't have a timing light, you might try loosening the bolt on the bottom of the distributor and giving a little twist either way as the engine idles - you can hear it settle in to the right spot (or at least close). Still probably a good idea to have a friend with a light or a shop check the timing if you still have trouble with it.

i moved the distributor and it ran better with no pops but it will hesitate now when i drive it down the road after it warms up. i have still not been able to get my old fuel filter off, do you think it could be so clogged that it wont get enough fuel to the motor?
i was also wondering if my starter might be going out, it doesnt want to turn over now to start the engine, but if i but my battery on a different truck it cranks it right up, the starter just rolls real slow and then it wont do anything.

A clogged fuel filter could be giving you some of this trouble too. Do you have the fuel line tools for the fittings? Seems like there are 3 or 4 different styles that Ford used, so you need to get the assortment if you're not sure which fitting you're fighting with.

You need to adjust the timing with a light. Both popping through the intake and hard starting are indicators that the timing is off. The truck wouldn't run if the distributor was 180 out.
