Default 4x4 problems?

I started my truck tonight and the light for 4x4 was on. I pressed it and the light got brighter? Then the light never went off. I drove for a mile or so and light went off. It didnt come back on. Dont know much about it but thats the first time it happened. Any input? Thanks

Im not sure? The light was on but if I hit 4x4 button, a brighter light came on and if I hit it again the dimmer light came back on. Then I just decided to drive bc it wont going off and it just cut off going down the road a few miles

if it does it again, you can do what I do even though I have a manuel t case, it will be a bit sketchy, but when driving down the road and you switch it to where it should be in 2by, if the road is a bit slick punch the gas real quick, if it takes off, it is still in 4by, if the back starts sliding a bit, it is in 2by, hope this helps.

Well it still wouldnt be in 4wd bc of the hubs. So idk it will hurt it being in 4wd without have the hubs locked..

it shouldnt hurt it, it will just seem down on power. your mileage will still suck, you would probably be better off keeping the hubs locked because then all the power would be put to the ground and it wouldnt seem down on power. now that I think about it, you would probably use more gas with the hubs unlocked as well because with it being down on power, you would have to give it more gas to get up to speed and maintain speed.

I wouldn't put it in 4wd with the hubs locked out. I was told by a couple of people to don't do that. It's okay to have the hubs locked in and run in 2wd. But you can do damage with the hubs locked out and running in 4x4. I could be wrong but that's what I heard and better safe then sorry.

It could just have been the light shorting out alittle. I would get it on a hill or somewhere slick and try it. Im almost betting it was just a fluke with the light and your 4wd is probably ok.
