Default Quick HP?

Does anyone have some simple/cheap quick upgrades for the 4.9 300 to add a few ponies? Also, has anyone ever swapped heads with aftermarket for the 4.9? I know possibilities are endless for the 302 but thats old news

Timing bump. Can be done in 15 min with a timing light.

How much of an improvement are you wanting? Cause there's a limit to what cheap and quick can do..

Its not like im going to dyno it before and after but id like to feel a little pick up you know? I was wondering if anyone had done their own thing like a bigger tbody or injectors etc and noticed some improvement or suprised at the increased torque/hp. Like the timing idea above, i had no idea.

Good tuneup, timing bump, clean/new stock injectors, correct tire pressures,

Anything other than that you will be digging internally into the engine..

I noticed when I did my tune up and timing bump to 14 degrees base it could move out of its own way better and it ran a whole bunch smoother also. And for who's wodering about mpgs this is what I found was the best combo full tune up- copper spark plugs, good wires, new cap and rotor, new fuel filter, and base timing bump to 12-16 degrees depending on the mileage of the motor, and drive with a light foot could net you around 20 mpgs. It's not bs cuz I've done it hand calculated. And if you really want to do some customizing put an exhaust on it too.

14 is generally the safe number without any ping from the engine. When the engine is up to temperature, hook up the timing light and disconnect the spout plug. Loosen the distributor hold down and shine the timing light on the timing marks to you're left on the timing cover, there are 2 sets of timing marks but only use the left ones.

Then turn the distributor counter clockwise till it reaches 14deg BTDC and plug the spout back in.

Gotcha! Sounds a little complicated haha. Any write ups here? Im still wondering, too, if anyone has swapped aftermarket heads.
