Default Possible Clutch Issue

Guys, I am having what I believe might be a clutch issue. It is intermittent, but at times the darn thing just does NOT want to go into gear. there isnt any grinding of gears, just doesnt want to go into gear from a dead stop. if its rolling at all, no problem. I dont see any leaking from either the slave or master, pedal feels like it always has. Driving down the road, it shifts with no problem whatsoever. Its just from a dead stop. Engine off, goes into gear easily. Any idea what this might be? Also, as a side note, if I were to go ahead and replace the slave and entire clutch assembly, how difficult is it to drop the transmission? Its a 1994, 302 engine, manual transmission...well yeah..it has a clutch LOL, 4x4. Also, any ballpark figure of getting this job done if I were to take it somewhere? I would like to do it myself, but have never dropped a transmission before. Not shy of doing this job myself, heck I have done everything else, but this is one job I have never had to do. BUT, would like to attempt fixing it before doing all of that since I see no leaking. Fluid is not down in the reservoir either. Possible air in the system somehow??

Sounds like worn shift forks. I can't speak from experience on dropping the tranny or anything, but the prices will vary from shop to shop for changing out your clutch, whether or not you supply the clutch, experience of shop, labor rate etc.

It's time consuming but not too difficult, I did a Trans change on my 93 4x4 4.9 few months ago. This it one thing I learned if you have to replace the slave clyinder or clutch replacement. Two things to make sure you replace while you are there. Always replace the pressure plate with a new one. On these internal slaves there is "NO" clutch pedal adjustment. so you get the feel from your clutch through the thickness of a NEW pressure plate, also while you are there it is very easy to replace the Rear Main Seal, a Fel-Pro will cost you less than $12.00 these are older trucks and it would really suck if yours started leaking oil right after you had just done a clutch pressure plate or trans replcement oh on the slave bleeding for air, you shoudn't have gotten any in the system unless the clutch resovier was empty, if so add break fluid and the slave has a bleed valve that comes through the bell housing, you bleed it same as breaks, pump up 10 times hold pedal in crack valve, shut wken on floor do again watch for bubbles shooting out, if straight fluid you have no air in you system ....hope this helps good luck

On one that has never been removed, are the bills typically a bear to remove or generally come right out or do you know? Weight of tranny? Would a tranny Jack greatly help?

If you arent losIng fluid it is likely that your clutch plate is worn to thin. And needs to be replaced. I have done quite a few I use a floor jack you could also lift it Out but I don't suggest it. Probly around 200lbs. My first one took about six hours.
