New rear diff.

good tip, if you can jack the rear end off the ground so both tires are off the ground, put the vehicle in neutral after the wheels are blocked and try to turn one wheel, if the other turns the same direction the posi is not worn out. if it does not turn or goes the other way it is shot or its open.

Not a problem! Just look over it good! There is also a tab on one of the bolts on the diff cover. that should say the gear ratio as well. Such as 3l 55 would be 3.55 ls

That and if its the stock axle the door sticker will tell you if its still there and legible.
