Default Limited Slip or Open on '87 150?

I have an '87 150. The code on the diff. tells me it's an open rear. When I park on a hill in the snow, step lightly on the gas in drive, sometimes the left wheel will spin, other times the right wheel will spin. I thought that in an open rear that only the right wheel would spin when losing traction. Can anyone help me understand what is happening? Thank you!

The tire with the least amount of traction will spin.

I understand that the tire with the least traction will spin, but I thought that worked in limited slip only. I thought an open rear would only spin one wheel. Could someone more clearly explain the difference and how they work? Thanks!

No, limited slip turns both wheels equally regardless of which tire has traction.
