Default distributor choice

Well, I didn't get much help with my last post on my 351w, hopefully someone will have a suggestion on this one. I went ahead and pulled the heads off for new guides and a valve job. I need to order a dist. for my conversion ( efi to holley carb ) Does anyone have a suggestion for one. I would like a one wire setup that does not require a box. Has anyone had experience with one. This is not a hi perf. truck, but a user.

GM HEI is the most common choice, and one wire.

Depending on what trans you have you'll have a useless truck by ditching the EFI.

No, you need to get one for a Ford. But it's still GM style.

Thanks. I thought I was misunderstanding you. I will look tomorrow for one. One more thing. I was told that 351w had 5 bolts holding on the valve covers, and 351c had 8. Mine has 6. Is this right? It is an 89 F250 engine.

'89 should have a Windsor, definitely a Windsor if it is currently fuel injected.

A Windsor has 6... Not 5 like someone told you.. After 81 the only 351 built were windsors.

Cleveland's were never in trucks and production was in 70-74..

The 335 series expanded to a 351m/400 and those were done in 81.. They're tall deck Cleveland's..

335 series are 351c, 351m, 400 and those have 8 valve cover bolts

Thanks for all the info. This is the first ford I've ever worked on. When it quit running, I parked it and left it for a couple of years due to the fact that I have a 05 f150. I finally decided that my old truck was too good to let go. I took it to a good ford mechanic, and he finally said that it was too expensive for him to repair. The efi system was shot, and the comp. wasn't working. It's too good a truck to not get it going. C6 and a 351w both basiclly sound. I had several holleys already, and found a cheap edelbrock intake. All I think I need is a distributor and and a fuel pump and it should be back on the road. I have an 85 f250 with a 460 and c6 that I need to get going after this one. I have to buy some good ford manuals.
