Default 302 to 351

So here I sit with my tired old 302 knockin. So many options.

My truck is stock with the exception of 31in tires. It's a 4x4 and constantly shifts in and out of overdrive going up hills.

I'm thinking either rebuild the stock 302 with a few minor mods and a gear change.

Or would I be better off swapping in a 351? What all is entailed with that swap? Computer?

I just put in a rebuilt E4OD so that's gotta stay.

How much can I mod the motor before I have to do something with the computer? Should I get a programmer reguardless?

No matter what I do headers and dual exhaust will be going on.

Thanks for any help I can get trying to figure out which way to go.

Youd be better off rebuilding yyour 302 or finding a used one to put in till you have your old one redone. Its way more work then you think putting in a 351. Others will chime in and tell you what work is involved

Rebuild your 302 . Put a mild cam in it with gt40p heads. With edlebrock carb and intake . And headers will wake up that motor . That's what I did with my 83 . 4 spd w/ granny low . My truck halls ***. I can smoke a bunch of Hondas . It's funny to see a 4000 lbs truck smoke a 2300lbs Honda . Those gt40p heads will add 25 to 50 horse power they are the best stock heads you can put on your 302 you can find them on 96 to 97 explorer or mountaineer. You dont have to worry about changing your intake or headers if you put theses heads on. If you want more info about the heads just go on YouTube and type in gt40p heads and there are some good videos that tell you all about them

It's a 94 standard cab flareside. Thought about converting it to carb but I still need the computer to run the trans so I might as well stick with the fuel injection. Maybe put larger injectors in it and a cold air kit.

Your truck is MAF. Just drop in the 351 FI, nothing else needed.
