For those of us playing along at home... how much money in USD did that set you back??

Im guessing at least 1hr maybe 2 of the shop labor rate.
The retail on the controller
sales & use taxes...
so $550ish???

vs the DIY'er...
$220 for the controller
$14 for a year of Forscan software subscription
$64 for the ODB2 controller compatible with Forscan?

Around $400 out the door with five year on parts (controller) . Doubt you’ll get that with an eBay module.

I went order from a ford dealer route. $150 for the oem controller, installed it myself and $0 to program. Works as it should with no issues.

Had an aftermarket one prior and the oem ITBC is so much better and worth it.

Default Dealer bought

I have a 2023 F-150 XLT Sport, came with factory hitch and 4 & 7 pin wiring.
Purchased Trailer Brake Controller from dealer for $229.
Kit includes controller and brake module for that money. Kit is listed as 2021 - 2024 models. The 2023's they changed the dash and all you do is pull out the coin tray with a pliers, the connector is attached to coin tray. Unplug coin tray, plug in controller, push back in dash, that is done. 30 seconds.
Then under dash below steering wheel, left side is brake module, remove 2 bolts, unplug 2 connectors one gray, one black and plug in new module, and replace 2 bolts, Job done. 15 minutes tops.
When you hook up trailer, all should work as is or so it is reported. Forum says ForScan not required. I don't have trailer here to check but will report back if I have to do any setting with Forscan.

Who says forscan or dealer programming with IDS software isn’t required? It will not work until it’s programmed with one of those methods.

That’s right to a point. The controller may actually work as far as brake operation, but it won’t interface with the gauge cluster.

You can’t control sensitivity, see gain
or control output level without the interface with the cluster. Maybe the basics work, but not worth it to lose out on the rest.

I don't have the exact location on this forum where I read that and that is why I said I would re-post when I hooked up to a trailer to test it. I read it from more than one post. I will re-post when I have tested. I always read here or any forum with caution as we all have varying levels of experience and I use the information as input and guidance and test and try my self.
There are many variances of installation of earlier models but few 2023's that I read, I was only sharing my install experience.
