Mine stopped using oil at about 3100 miles. Each time I drive it Ill get down on it pretty hard a couple of times after it warms up.

I'm either cross eyed or dont know how to read a dipstick. Well or it could be the worst case senario, it's using oil. Mine had been sitting for 4 hours and go check it and it half way up the crosshairs. the 5.0 has 28k on it and I changed the oil 2k miles ago. It might have been on a very slight incline but that far off????

EDIT: How low does the oil have to get before cel/ low oil pressure light? Also can someone post a pick of their 5.0 oil pressure guage please at idle.

If it is in the crosshairs then it is fine. If/when it drops below the bottom hole is when you should be worried. Not sure when the low pressure light comes on.

I am at 32K miles on my '11 5.0. I just had to add 1.5L, my last oil change was at 28K.
I have been having oil consumption from mile 1
Wanted to post because I had not seen anyone with milage this high respond yet.
Guess I am still in the break in period?

I suppose my problem is that I have towed a 3,000 lb trailer 65% of the time since mile 15.
Sorry didn't read a 400 page book to read one sentance saying "do not to tow till after 1K" and the dealer did not say anything when they saw me towing
I suppose it's a $4000+ repair to fix huh? think I'll just add oil the rest of the life of the truck

Try topping up with 5W30 or even 10W30 between oil changes, I'm beginning to think that the 5W20 may be a little light for the motor if you are working the truck. I don't think I would add any oil unless it goes below the add mark.

I have 13,700 miles on my 5.0. I drive it like a car- my old G8 that is, and I tow a 3k trailer on occasion. My last oil change was at 8k. I have added maybe 1/2 qt. 5W-20 synthetic. I am not sure that this amount of use constitutes "oil consumption" in my opinion. For sure, a qt. in 1k does in my book. This is a high performance engine- 360 hp in 5 liters. It does some work hauling around 6k of weight, let alone towing a trailer. I am happy for the engine to use a little oil as I figure it ends up in the combustion chamber, lubricating the compression rings a little. Some engines do, while others do not use any (none noticeable) oil. As bcb97 (and the Ford manual) points out, the oil level is fine as long the level is between the hash marks/ holes. Remember that there are 8 qts. of oil in the crankcase. As far as the low oil pressure warning light- if it comes on, this little bit of oil useage will be the least of your problems.

Changing the oil may help, just careful if you use to thick of a viscosity you can blow out seals in the engine. Im wondering if any of these consumption issues were caused by people putting 5w30 or 10w30 in their engines?? Also the new 5.0L uses oil piston cooling jets, considering the bottom of the piston will get hot especially when towing could this be where its getting burnt??? Or when you check the oil could come of it be in the block (more than normal) due to the oil squirters??

Theres a reason they took the squirters out of the 5.0L BOSS engine, Im thinking this could be the reason for the oil consumption

Oh and dont go by your oil pressure light, I had a 92 5.0L never seemed to leak or burn oil. Went around a corner one night, truck was warm, it was about 20*F out and the oil pressure dropped to nothing. Pulled over there was nothing on the stick, I dumped in 4L of oil and it still wasnt on the stick. Considering the old 5.0L only took 5L to begin with that wasnt good. But im glad to say its still ran fine LOOOOONG after.

I have 14k miles now. Checked the oil at 1/4 qt. down. Time for me to stop worrying about the oil level. I'll start checking it every 5k miles.
