Default Exhaust Systems

I'm looking at Flowmaster and Magnaflow as possible systems. My research on YouTube has me leaning toward Magnaflow. In terms of performance and sound quality, which one is best in your experience? Or is there another one I should be looking at?

Engine size?

Are you going to do the work yourself? Looking for just a muffler swap, full kit, and what type of sound are you wanting? Do you want to have a more aggressive sound without getting drone at cruising rmp?

I personally believe you can't go wrong with Flowmaster, Magnaflow, and Solo-Performance. I went with the Flowmaster 50 Series Delta Flow because I wanted no in cab noise, no drone and a moderate exterior tone. Had I done the full exhaust swap I would have leaned towards the Solo, then the Flowmaster kits as I like how they offer exit options (wanted behind the rear tire, side exit). The only thing that really stopped me from Magnaflow was the lack of shops that offer it here.

It's the 4.6L and I'm looking for as aggressive sound I can get with minimal cab noise. What do you mean by drone?
I'm actually thinking of doing a cat back swap with dual exits straight out of the back. And I'm probably going to do the work myself with a friend who just did the same thing but with Flowmasters.

those Flowmasters are going to be drone-o-rific. I have a single in/single out Borla kit I scored off of Amazon for $480. My cab is pretty quiet. You could have a shop get you a Borla single in/dual out ProXS muffler and have them put in pre bent rear sections and run whatever kind of tips you want. Im partial to Borlas, they arent as expensive as they are made out to be, the interwebz helps find stuff for good prices. If you have the tools, its pretty easy to put in yourself.

Drone is that constant noise generated at cruising speed. I am sure someone can come in here with the techinical definition, but I am sure it is a result of being at a steady RPM. Basically, you just hear the exhaust in a constant pulsing tone/hum that really wears on some folks.

What do you think of the Flowmasters on your friend's truck? Try to find people in your area that has what you are looking at. If there is a truck that you like the sound of, ask what they are running. Youtube is great for narrowing down the wide field of options, but picking the one can be hard. Do what you can to hear with your own ears.

Thanks for that explanation. That's what my thoughts were, but thanks for the clarification. His Flowmasters sound good, but I actually think they could sound a little beefier. I want something a little louder and deeper than what he has. Based on YouTube, the Magnaflows do that. I guess I'm going to have to do some more research before I commit.

Do you know which Flowmasters he has? They have a great chart on their website that helps pick based on interior, exterior noise levels.
