A Custom Tune Vs. The Canned Tune

Most every cat back modification on the exhaust will not need custom tuning. When you start to mess with the flow past the front O2 sensors (hi flow cats, LT headers, etc), then the need comes. Canned tunes and intakes (espcially with 3V 5.4L motors) tend to not be a good idea and they should be accounted for with custom tunes. The link below explains more on that. I highlight the word need because good custom tunes are always superior to a canned tune, even on a stock truck.

I have a 03 F150 4.6, I am wanting to get a superchips tuner for it, is there a better one for the money and what kind of gains am I looking at? I have a flowmaster catback exhaust and a custom coolair intake.

Hey everybody, I have a 2005 5.4L with a K&N intake, a flowmaster 40 series, and a throttle body spacer on it.....Would the custom tune be the best route? and if so, where is the best place to get a custom tuner?....
Thanks

Yes get a custom tune on there now. Running lean makes me cringe.

I went with 5-Star and an SCT. There's also VMP and I think there is a member on here who got into it as well.

Hello. I have a 2012 F-150 STX 5.0L V8 and I'm new to the tuning game. So far my truck is completely stock and I was looking at getting this http://www.autoanything.com/performa...0A3406342.aspx
Is that what I would need or is there something better I should look into. I've read the other thread about what tuners people are using but there are so many I'm not sure what to go with. The only future modifications I would probably make would be possible CIA and dual exhaust. My main focus right now is maximum MPG. Any and all direction\help is appreciated. Thank you.

Your Mod Superstore!
Wow, what a good thread. Great job with the suit analogy, really hit it on the head. As for which tune you need, depends on what you are doing. As with a suit, there are different needs depending on what YOU need.
I posted this earlier but think it is very helpful, click here to read 1000's of reviews on some of the major canned tuners (Superchips, SCT, Edge, Hypertech, DiabloSport and Bully Dog). This should at least give you some good info about the specific product you are looking to purchase (Hypertech in the above post).
