Couple questions here about the Borla ATAK system. I’m also open to people’s honest feedback about it for the 2.7 EcoBoost. YouTube videos only get you so far. Thanks!

1. Has anybody been able to just purchase the ATAK muffler separate from the catback system? Dropping over $1k on the system is a little much for me.

2. Has anybody ran a single exit off of the ATAK muffler instead of the dual rear exit?

 

If you want single in/single out Borla, you might check out their XR-1 muffler.

 

I know on the 5.0l Atak systems, it is just the Borla Resonator with straight pipes all the way back. The Atak sounds no better than mbrp or any other budget exhaust IMO. If your going to spend the money on Borla, go with a S type, something that has that nice Borla high end tone. Welding in a Xr1 muffler would be reasonable if you want Borla.

 

Did you make a decision yet? I will have my S-Type installed in the next week or so and can let you know my thoughts.

 

hello...So this is my short story ...I decided to purchased Borla s type based on the YouTube video sound clips..(sound pretty loud ). I didn't want anything super loud so I thought stype was gonna be fine for me ..installed in my truck. Let me tell you I got super disappointed on the sound ..to me it sounds pretty much exactly as the factory except in cold start. so I got frustrated . I started to call Borla customer service headquarters located in California (that's the number in the website) they transfer me to the offices in Tennessee where they have their customer service center I believe, so I told them about the situation and told them if they could do something for me as courtesy exchange...for the Atak. I guess I got lucky and talk to the right people I ask them if they can offer me a one time exchange of the mid pipe ( Y pipe ) where the muffler/resonator is pretty much where the difference is between the atak and the stype , and they say they couldn't do an exchange but they could sell me the pipe for $250 plus shipment as one time courtesy, I didn't think twice and I took the offer... its a lot of money but its better than $1000+ which is another system. I'm getting the pipe tomorrow and probably install it next week I will let you guys know the results... wish me luck I hope it turns out like the atak if not better sound. also I'll probably put the mid pipe with resonator stype. for sale for you atak guys that think system its too loud.

 

How did that turn out? I installed the s-type on my 19 and I'm extremely unhappy with the sound. I've never had such bad buyers remorse. Like you said, cold starts are awesome, otherwise it's barely better than stock.

 

You guys trying to get V8 sound out of a V6 are hilarious. You can't plain and simple. You want 8 cyl sound, buy one.

 

to be honest with you I’m so happy with the sound... it’s completely different I never heard the atak but my sounds really good...growling and turbo sounds are crazy .... i got a lot of complements they always think my ecobeast it’s a coyote if you know what i mean ... v8. The only down side is that its getting really hard to sale the midpipe from the s-type so i can recover some money..its pretty much brand new and uses too much storage space 🙌🏽Let me know if some one wants the mid pipe.
