Default Considering a Raptor...

Hello all,

Am going to trade my 16 King Ranch on either a 19 Platinum or Raptor. The dealer really wants my trade as it has very low miles (less 20k) and is in great condition. He has priced both vehicles very attractively well below invoice minus the rebates. I am retired and am attracted to the Raptor due to its looks and the fun potential it has as being my daily driver.

The Raptor I'm considering includes: 802a, moonroof, tech pkg and heated rear seats. The dealer also owns a large body shop that also does vehicle mods and is a Linex dealer. My deal includes a Linex liner and rear wheel well liners done there. Also considering (do to my being somewhat inseam challenged) having them install a set of AMP running boards.

I am a conservative driver and the only off-roading would be relatively limited travel while hunting, camping, etc al on relatively flat terrain. Most driving will be on rural roads at 55-65mph...plus of course briefly "stomping it" once in while to "blow the carbon out" and have some fun.

My KR regularly gets ~20 mpg in the summertime and some what less during winter months. I know that the 3.5 HO with the 4.10s will be less, but with my (relatively) conservative driving habits, but approximately how much? 15?, 16?, 17?, 18? I also realize that at higher interstate speeds, the mileage will drop noticeably.

I would not be considering a Raptor if I was overly concerned about its mpg. Most fun things are not cheap. I'm just curious as what to expect from those with experience. Thanks in advance for any responses...

-Dave

I was in a similar situation as yourself. The Raptor was very intriguing. Having a 2016 Platinum that I ordered and set up as my last truck I had no reason to change. When I started to research how much I would be losing the longer I kept the Platinum if I ever decided that the Raptor itch wasn't going to go away. Looking at how the Raptor keeps its value longer and the smiles I'll have for a very long time the decision became vary easy. I suggest you get on the Ford Raptor Forum (FRF). The folks there are pretty good and the fun they are saying about driving and owning a Raptor closed the deal for me. I ordered in February awaiting delivery the end of this month. The deals are now at or below invoice which is what I negotiated. You have what I'm looking for now. someplace who will linex the wheel wells. Definitely go Screw, 802a, tech pkg., Tailgate step, heated rear seat, moonroof, forged wheels. Good luck!

Same here. Looking at the higher trims vs the Raptor, seems like Raptor is a better decision from a value point of view. Dealers in VA claim they are still asking $10k over msrp, Dealers in PA around me ask MSRP. Where are they selling at or below invoice???

I'm in Minn. Most dealers around me are selling them for 2-3k under MSRP -or- 1k over invoice. Many have 2 or more Raptors in stock. My dealer really wants/needs my trade is why my offer is below invoice...

Real world fuel mileage is not too bad. I did a road trip from Oregon to Montana. Round trip covered about 1500 miles. Went from sea level to about 8000ft in elevation. Highway speeds ranged from 75mph-85mph. Had about 400lbs of gear in the bed. I do have a hard bedcover. My average for the entire trip was right at 20mpg (hand calculated not the in dash number).

I'm in NY. My experience tells me if you go into the dealer knowing what you want, know what invoice is and tell them your ready to buy today at the price your willing to pay you will be surprised when they agree. Just do a little homework. I just used this process somewhat similarly for financing. Dealer offered me 5.49 for 72. I looked around and moved down to 4.99, 4.24, 3.99, 2.99, 2.24 & today I'm at 1.99 for 84. I only want 60. It keeps me engaged while waiting for delivery along with sourcing mods at the lowest prices possible.
