Question engine troubles???

hi! look I have a 99 f150 4.6L 2wd extendcab with problems. Ive already replaced the sparkplugs, the wires, the coils, the egr valve, vaccum silenoid, pressure sensor, and two of the four cats. now the truck runs fine when its cold but when it wrms up you can't hardly take off without it stuttering and then it just puts along and sounds about like a helicopter taking off. if any one knows what would be causing this please let me know.... thanks!!!

Hi!!

The 4.6's are known for fouling the throttle bodie , what happens is you EGR port/ports get clogged with black carbon deposits.
I would pull the throttle bodie and with a good set of pipe cleaners , clean her up a bit, make sure you don't miss an opening - clean the IAC since you have there with you and use WD40 - manualy work the IAC control needle up and down - make sure it moves freely - use compressed air to dry the IAC before rienstall.
You can use RTV - High heat Black Permatex as complete gasket fabrication in this area of your motor.

Hope that helps yuh -

How would you do this? I just bought a supercrew that has a 4.6 and would like to know for down the road.

Thanks in advance.

Will putting an aftermarket air intake help this at all?

How would I do what? lol . Would you be refering to the TB or the 06? Well the post - Cleaning your TB is for the most part explained- That's a good start, an intake , then port and polish the throttle body and throttle body elbow. Don't worry about the anti-sludge in your TB that Ford applies as an attepmt to keep thing cleaner , Once polished it stays cleaner.

Kooks or JDM headers , flow through cats and a magneflow cat back system would be my choice.

I would get a Superchip/tuner from troyer - http://www.troyerperformance.com/cgi-bin/ppistore.pl

That would do me for a while - a little while lol - I would supercharge with a blower (Pro Charger or kenne bell)- bilestein shocks, more fuel pump , bigger injectors, MAF , etc.

I prefer the 5.4L myself, the 4.6 can be kade to go plenty fast - The 5.4 is just a stroked 4.6 , everythings pretty much the same except the blocks are different.

I bet that's a sweet ride now

How much does porting and polishing the throttle body and elbow help? I have heard of doing this, but I wouldn't think that it would make that big of a difference.

Well , stock ford throttle bodies - Ford has coated with an anti-sludge agent. Once you get into your higher miles , the agent ages and can have adverse effects. Personally , it may be due to cleaning agent I chose to use such as SEAFOAMS "DeepCreep". Awesome cleaning agent for the IAC because it lubricates as well ..
Anyway the benefit would be smoother air flow. No noticeable power increase, more of an idle smoother. If you have chosen to keep the EGR setup on the motor than this will help when the EGR reports back to your PCM .

Polishing keeps the contaminants from building up - they don't stick.

If they get in your way , you know what to do

Need To Check Compression On Your Engine. Or Better Yet Do A Leak Down Test.see If Cylinders Hold Air And If Not You Can Tell Where It Is Going.

WTF - Not sure why your saying this. FYI- Compression checked last spring, All cylinders - top of the ladder. 201,266 miles - no burn , no leaks. ProCharged 5.4L 4X4 , Monter Box E4OD - 488's. Plugged EGR - still passes emissions and gets 16 - 19 mpg. She's very healthy .

Thanx anyway
