I've been looking into a programmer for my truck, I've searched and searched an everything I find has so many mixed reviews on what to get, it is hard to decide. I've read about the edge programmer a friend had it and said it made a big difference but then again he has never had anything else to compare it to.

I've also read that the SCT flasher with custom tunes is the way to go.

Looking for a little help, I just want what will e best for my truck. I drive it on the days that I don't ride my street bike.

Truck info:
2000 XLT 5.4L
Just under 165,000 miles
k&N cold air intake
I believe 3" cat back exhaust (was on truck when I got it so not positive exactly what it is)

Looking for a little better shifts, more throttle response, just a better tune for the engine.

Was looking at this:
http://www.vmptuning.com/store/index...=226&parent=66

I do not know anything about programmers or tunes, have never owned one. So looking for some help.

Hopefully this might be of some help. I have an Edge Evolution programmer for my pickup and it has what most call "canned tunes". I have it set on the second setting running on 89 octane and for what I get out of it, it works pretty well. I'm glad with what I have but I also have an CAI and exhaust and I've had no problems with it. I've also heard that if you do have an intake and aftermarket exhaust, custom tunes is the way to go. I've heard nothing but great things about SCT also but if you need advice, contact Franchi Motorsports
https://www.f150forum.com/members/fr...rsports-99933/ on here if you need information about the SCT. He was extremely helpful! I'm eventually considering switching from the Edge to the SCT Livewire.

SCT or Gryphon are the only way to go if you want custom tuning. VMP in the link is a reputable tuner, along with places like Troyer, 5star, and PHP.

Since i don't know much about tuners, can anyone give me a run down of exactly what these things do, advantages of going with custom tunes, what I should expect from it, if the gauge info on ones like the edge is better than just a flasher. Who does good custom tunes for my daily driving application and how much the tunes usually cost. Just any info will be greatly appreciated.

Programmers change things like shift points and pressures, fuel trims, and the like. This thread should explain custom tunes better.

I do my own tuning and have the SCT LiveWire. Love it and all the support I have received for SCT and 5Star tuning.
