Default Wrong Oil. DERP.

I went to change my oil today and like an idiot I bought the wrong oil. I bought 10w-30 instead of 5w-20. I already opened the top on the 5 qt bottle so I can't take it back. haha. Since I am down in the hotter climate of Florida, do you think it would be a big deal to just run the 10w-30?

If memory serves me right, your owners manual gives you some options depending on climate.

That's what I run during the summer and I'm in ky. Being as you are in Florida I think you'd be fine.

No harm, no foul. It's hot in GA, so a heavier weight oil won't kill ya.

Hell I'm running 15w40. I havent seen any issues and I've been doing it for over 4 years. The only time I go back to 5w20 is the winter time when temperatures drop below 40 degs. I'm in southern FL so it doesnt happen very often.

I live in louisiana and my truck has had 10w-30 in it since the first oil change its ever had. That was back in 98. It still runs great. Youll be fine.

Thanks for all the advice. I ended up getting some 5W-20 and put that in instead. It made me feel better to do that. But I do have a brand new 5 qt jug of 10W-30 if anyone wants it.

Not only is the weight of the oil what your engine recommends, but its also what your oil pump is rated for. So say the vehicle calls for 5-20, and your using 10-30, your actually getting less oil flow throughout the entire engine.
