Default Winch install

I recently noticed a couple of members have posted pics of their truck with a winch in the stock front bumper I was just wondering if anyone could explain how that's done cause I'd like to do it to my 03 screw

It's called a hidden winch kit and mounts the receiver between the frame in the license plate opening. Not as tough but serviceable. You can probably fab a cover for bad salty weather. Move your license plate over like An EB with kit. Figure on $1000 +

I believe what you see in Lifted's winch is a Winch from Harbor Freight and a trailer mount winch carrier. The trailer mount is fabbed to the mounting all ready in the frame of the truck. Not quite as strong as a regular set up but usable. Also could mount into your rear hitch with battery and cables back there. I wouldn't use it to lift up and hang the truck under a bridge overnight though. LOL

The other set up I saw was a hidden winch located behind the bumper was also wondering how that was secured to the truck and how much fab work is involved

you can drop your tow hooks and mount a 1/4" plate accross the frame rails and mount the winch to it, trust me its plenty strong

There are 5 small screws, and 4 large nuts holding the bumper on. Remove it. You have a large hole thru the frame on each side and you bolt thru it with a spacer so as not to collapse the frame when tightening up. If you fabricate you can grind and weld a 1/4 inch plate between the rails. You also use a couple of the holes your bumper bolts to for sturdy support. You can add a lower piece on each side to go down to the bottom of the rail. Mount your receiver to this and mount your winch. Your frame must support all the winch power and weight. You'll need to make some support gussets. You can get the system from Warn for your particular truck or other suppliers/ Warm is complete when needing a winch. You aren't left needing anything else from another fabricator. Not done strong and you can break your truck. Just don't put your hand in there when winching.
