Default Where to get a GEM module

Hello, my 1999 F150 needs a new GEM module. The dealer wants $350 -- I don't know that I trust ebay or a wrecking yard -- where is a good place to get one? thanks

You just gave all 3 choices. Sometimes Rock Auto has them, but then you may or may not need to get it programmed at the dealer.

What is the part number on yours?

ah yes, programming, thanks for bringing that up -- I forgot to ask about that. The number on mine is XL34-14B205-AE. What's the scoop on does it need programming or not?

I have no experience with ebay, can I get a good one, or more likely to get someone elses bad part.?

Your GEM is carrying a 2000 part (X prefix) number. This is very common, so you know that at least 2 years will interchange by number. It may be used in 01 and 02 also, but we know that 03 that they changed to an updated number. If you want to keep from having to program it, and it usually will workout ok, then get a used one. Any new unit or rebuilt will have to programmed by the dealer to your truck. The ones in the used are already programmed to the truck. You also need, if pulling the part yourself, to make sure that the options on your truck are also on the truck you pull it from. That way all the power stuff is on and usable thru the GEM.

99% of the used will work correctly, if they are a good or guaranteed unit. You have to have the same part number as on your GEM. No other will work without programming.

I changed out my GEM Module when I thought it was the culprit to an electrical problem I was having, it ended up not being the problem. So the module I bought and changed out is still in my truck and I have my original in a box in the garage.

I have that exact Part Number XL34-14B205-AE, Made in Canada 19/01/2000 'B' .

If you want to try out my original module to see if that cures your problem then great. All I would ask for is for you to pay shipping. I would give it to you for free beyond that, just pay it forward when someone on our list could use your help or just help in general. I'll be happy to send you a picture of the module I have with this thread showing in the background for verification. You can PM from here on out to work out the details.

Sounds good to me BlackBullXLT -- My truck seems to be kicking out some codes, so it was recommended I remove and clean the terminals of the fuse box and the GEM (they were real clean except for a little oily liquid from something). Now that I've done that and put it all back together, the turn signals don't work and the airbag light stays on. While trying to figure out the problem, I saw a circuit board resistor laying on the truck carpet. I can figure it came from the GEM. So I'm figuring, no matter what, I need to replace that board. AND I'd rather stick with the same number unit since the nearest dealer to me is 30 miles away. Lets make it happen

Default 1998 F150 4x4 GEM issues

I have spent the last month dealing with a bad actor company Performance Auto Parts located in Illinois. I paid for a fuse box and GEM Module 194.00 and was sent the wrong parts for my truck so I paid 21.00 to ship the part back. I was then sent just the fuse box and when I calmly asked why they didn't send the GEM they got really nasty and said that I only ordered the fuse box. My nervous system is wrecked due to the back and forth and I'm still without the part and out over 200.00.

If anyone has a good GEM P/N F75B-14B205-ND that you would part with, this old man would greatly appreciate it.

You can get this things rebuilt, the only problem is your truck is down a few weeks waiting for it to come back. That said….at least you get the right one back. Getting the correct part # is half the battle.
