Default What is this part?

Can someone tell me what the part is identified as "The part no one knows what the hell it's for". Is it just a fancy elbow?

It helps if I add the pic. The part in question is in the bottom right corner of the pic.

I've heard of it being one of two things.... either a silencer because it made a noise, or as a canister to handle and sudden rushes of flow. Jbrew can probably straighten that out... or AKdoggie.

And yeah, not sure where you're seeing "it says gas" at, but that is the vacuum supply for the brake booster.

That isn't my pic, just the only one I could find showing the part clearly. I sure hope it is a silencer, that would explain the noise Im trying to correct. The same noise that started when I replaced the mystery part with a vacuum hose.

Yep, silencer or IAC horn.

I was going to warn you in your other thread, you need to get rid of that intake before you blow your engine up. Your running a 3 valve intake. The 3 valves can't even run it unless they're tuned.

I'm not sure what you mean by 3 valve intake, but sure do know what blow up your motor means. I think I'm going to get out there the first warm day and put my old stuff back on. I took the silencer off thinking it was just a fancy 90degree elbow. I've been hearing that noise since. I thought it was a loose seal somewhere.

Yea, a 3" intake is max. You may be able to custom tune it. What that intake will do is cause the engine to run dangerously lean. What's bad about that, the PCM doesn't always tell you when your lean, like it should. Are you getting lean codes?

You have a 2 valve engine. The 3 valve came in the 11 generations. I believe they quit making that intake your running all together, is that a new /old stock intake perhaps? The way that went, the same company made two intakes. One was a 3", the other was a 3.5" but you needed a tune with it. Sort of vaguely recall something like that because it was a 3 valve thing. No one with a 2 valve would attempt it.

Yea , that's why that black box 90* was called the IAC horn (silencer). The IAC can sound off if you delete it. Not always, but most of the time. It doesn't hurt to run without it, -just have to deal with the noise.

Yes I am getting the lean code. The CAI is in fact the old version. I got it on Craigs list new in the box. Spectre showed the new version to be a 1 piece tube. I was hoping to get rid of the noise and the code by putting the AIC horn back on, but after reading your post am thinking of going back to stock. I had no idea it could actually cause damage to my engine.
