Default What can it be

I have a 2001 f150 4x4 5.4. I took it offroading and was super disappointed. after trying to go thru some small rocks the truck wouldn't go in 2wd or 4wd hi I had to put it in 4low to make it go thru....the tires wouldn't even spin at all and the rpm wouldn't go over 1800. What can be wrong with the truck.

Engine idles fine. Tranny shifts smoothly. I also have a limited slp diff. And when I'm in water and try to burn out only one wheel spins

I'm having trouble understanding exactly what you mean. Looking at the video, everything looks fine. You just need to be in a lower gear so you can put the power to the ground easier. Low enough to creep over it, not gun through it.

Although there is a time for that, just not in the rocks. And not in a stock truck.

Okay let me try to explain it better. After taking my truck off-roading and driving for awhile we hit this spot where the video was taken. My truck wouldn’t go over anything not even the smallest rock. I would floor it and nothing no tire would spin not even try to spin and my RPM’s wouldn’t go past 1800.
1. I put my truck on 4wd Hi and still the truck wouldn’t budge. Again no tire would spin.
2. I put it on 4wd low and after trying for awhile it finally went over the rocks but it had a hard time.

In the video the truck is on 4wd low and u can hear when I’m revving it and nothing then it just goes.

I don’t think this is normal the tires should at least try to turn if it was stuck. I took my brothers jeep wrangler and it got stuck on the same place but at least 3 wheels would spin on his jeep.
I can’t remember what gear I had it in. but shouldn’t it always be on first gear? Its automatic tranny

That's what I thought you meant, but wasn't quite sure. It sounds like you were simply out of power for some reason. When up against the rocks, and in 4wd, you simply didn't have enough gusto to get moving easily.
In 4 low, you should be able to idle over about anything and simply bump the throttle as needed.

Make sure you are either in 1 or D. If you have the shifter in 2 it will try to pull out in 2.

How's the truck run normally?? Put you back in the seat if you mash the throttle?
Bigger tires, and a high gear ratio will have a hard time to get rolling.

yeah your right I had no power at all, if you would of been there and seen those rocks are really really small. on that video it was in 4Lo but now that I think about it I do think I had it in 2nd gear

the truck runs okay when really cold u can feel the power and it throws me back. but once it gets warmer it kinda looses the power...

Yeah I might have to regear but im waiting until I get a good set of 35's or 37's

If you had it in 2nd gear, that would explain a lot. It's something I found by accident, and then read about in my owners manual.

Normally when you lock it in 2nd gear (any other vehicle), and pull out from a dead stop, it will still start out in 1st but will only go up to 2nd gear.
With our F150's it will actually pull out in 2nd gear. It's made that way to use in low traction situations such as snow to keep wheel spin down by limiting torque.

I have pulled out in 2nd a few times to try it out. It takes some time to get rolling. Any obstacles or inclines will definitely make it tough to get going.

Lock it down in low range and 1st gear and see what happens. You should creep over anything.

A combination of 2nd gear and too much air in your tires.
