Looks like an audiovox keyless entry or keyless entry/alarm unit. The wire that comes out and is not "connected" is the antenna.

Could possibly be a GPS tracker. If there is an antenna that has been cut it would be under the trim panel top of the dash. Used car lots use those trackers alot.

It is hooked into the switch wiring. Good luck.
What he said^^^ Does the side of the box have a screw to adjust sensitivity?

Before you tear too far into the dash. Check you "GEM", or Generic Electonic Module. It is on the backside of the fuse box. It controls your 4 wheel drive, it has its fingers in your gauges working properly, windows, turn signals, just about everything. It ALSO has the stupid idiot gonger in it for when you leave the door oern and such. Sooo follow the sound and it wont be hard to find.

Just so you know, It is an AutoPage RF255 series car alarm. That is what your numbers came up to. If you should want, ebay sells this same kit for about 50-60, and since yours is already wired, you could just plug in the new controller, and use the new fobs to actuate the system. It would be a 5 minute job to change out the module, and you are done with an alarm system and auto door locks. Just a thought.
