Default Underdash light

1998 Ford F150 Lariat 4.6l 4x4

I want to add an LED light under the dash to illuminate the footwell when the doors are opened. I had read somewhere to look for a black/light blue wire. I found one under the kick panels on both sides but haven't had success in getting the light to work. The light I intend to use is a simple LED assembly with one black wire and one red wire.

Advice?

I assume you tried the polarity both ways? LED's can only go one way, unlike an incandescent bulb.

There are actually two black wires with blue tracers on them down there. Its been a while since I did it on my old truck but I think it was pin #7 behind the pass side kick panel. Square plug with 12 or 16 wires.

The wire is right there in the ash tray that you can tap for all your LED uses. It has a blue stripe.

I think that comes on with the park lights and dash lights though, right? I think he wants them to come on with the interior lights.
