Default Transmission issues

I changed the valve body on my 4r70w, it would not engage first gear if it was cold, after changing the valve body, 1-2 work, but I don’t have third. I changed all solenoids and checked the accumulator. What else could it be?

Did you put an actual 1997 valve body in it? And retain the soft wire harness?

I ordered the valve body online, it has the soft harness. Is there a difference?

Yes, 98+ is different.

You checked the 2-3 accumulator? Is the rubber still good.... or has it turned to "plastic"? That rubber that's bonded to it needs to be pliable.

If that checks out, is your valve body used?

Any extra details you can give us will greatly help us help you. We can't see or know what's been done... you'll need to tell us.

I checked the accumulator, I ordered a new one, and if I have to take the valve body out again I’ll replace it. Should I seek a used one out of a junk yard?
