Thinking v2
I'm starting to think the 1st Schumacher may have lunched the battery it was connected to when it blew up. 24h after removing it from the little charger, it's voltage has plummeted from 12.7 to 12.04V. I just swapped the little charger from the main battery back to the 2nd (the one at 12.0V), which was showing 12.98V. I expect that to fall back to 12.8, but then it should hold. As of this moment, it's still inconclusive whether the Schumacher is worth a damn.
Weird... the problem battery is already done charging (~20min), despite only being at 12.4V (the charger stops itself under microprocessor control). Thankfully, it's just the "house battery", but it looks to me like it's a goner. I guess I'll have to base whether the Schumacher is going back on on the outcome of the main battery.
Edit: Decided I can never fully trust this new charger - it's going back.
Edit Edit: Mother of Eff, this battery is $340!

I ordered a Century, half the size of the Schumacher. Century still says it's a division of Lincoln, but they're no longer USA-made. It's concerning that Schumacher is a part of their line card, too - I hope they're not both coming out of the same factory.
Like I mentioned when you first asked, my vote is still for K-tool.
Not sure if they're still around.

I like Century as well.

I found some USA-made but they're laughably expensive. Associated was one brand from the Century line card. The others I never heard of. I could just buy a new battery every time it gets low for the money those Associateds cost.
Probably , but the battery charger is pretty damn handy when you need one. Mines over 20 years old now, worked every time. Don't think it was expensive, maybe 50 or 60. A size smaller than that one in the pic.
