My 2001 started making what sounds like power steering pump noise, but it doesn't change with steering, it changes with throttle. I hear it when I take off from a stop. Is that still PS pump, just failing in a different way, or something else?
Really nice compressor setup! Wish I had it set up like that in my shop. How well does the "external" air intake location work with noise reduction? I wonder if insulating the pipe going up wouldn't help the noise reduction...
What percentage (estimate) do you think it reduces the noise by? I especially like how the hose reel is mounted up high. My shop has it mounted about chest level, and not staying out of the way enough...
Thanks! I wish I had thought to take sound measurements before and after, dang it. Regardless, it's a significant difference. Like an "I need ear plugs" vs. "yeah, it's kinda noisy" difference. I have a pice of pipe insulation I could throw on there, but I doubt it will reduce it much more.
I had the hose reel on the wall previously, right above the old (20-gal horizontal) compressor, so it was pretty much out of the way, but I really do like it up high better.
I'm going to do the two external TC tensioners on the Explorer... I've got them soaking in oil right now. In order to do the drivers side, the t-stat housing must be removed, or at least partially disassembled. I looked at it today, and there are some signs of leaking by the sensors. So, I'm not going to **** with it... I'll just replace the whole assembly. Motorad was the OE supplier for these, so I ordered one. It also comes with two new sensors... and it needs a new one for the gauge anyway.
Kind of a weird looking feller.
That looks different , like some kind of mechanical heart.

I would suggest doing the stethoscope trick and see what's whining. I assume the reservoir is full?
I wish mine had come with that cage around the pullies, but the PO yanked it. I checked into getting one, and IR wants $120 plus another $20-$30 shipping. :-/. Located where it is and up against the wall, it should be okay without.
