The GN's were badass back in the day, but the late 70's TA's, yea they were cool. The only Vette I really liked was the split window, that was a nice looking car. I was partial to the old Chevelles. Back in 80's in school, most kids who talked their parents into buying them a car, it would be a Mustang. A bad car right out of the box. Hell even the LX's were bad little rockets.
The GN is one of the few "normal" cars that look perfect as-is with no appearance mods. Well, dark window tint and smoked lights, maybe, but I think the stock wheels looked best (especially the mesh ones), and there was little else you *could* do, let alone needed to.
My '87 LX tuned a 14.55 quarter. Not bad for a box stock car back then.
Good luck at the show, Whitey. I'm sure it'll turn heads.
Thanks fellers.... My Buddy's Dad is part of the committee doing this show tonight. He and my Buddy are really who got me into cars.... more specifically Mustangs. My Buddy has owned 8 Fox's, an SN95, and a New Edge Cobra (not a Termi though). His Dad has a 65 Fastback and a mid 60's Falcon Gasser.... I'm not sure which he'll bring tonight.
14.55 here in UT would translate to a 13.55 at sea level. I really ought to go run mine..... BTW, the car show on Labor Day will have another Fox sitting with me. It's a turbo'd 90 LX.
Brew, forgot I had taken a pic of a 69 Chevelle.... also a 69 Camaro, and this Duster (can't remember the year).
This park ^^^ where the car show was is literally right next to Utah Motorsports Campus. I could hear the Porsche's and BMW's all day long... they were still going when I left the demolition derby at about 11:00 pm.
Some nice rides in there Whitey. That damn 70 Cobra Torino needs the Magnum 500's on it to really stand out. I was never a fan of the blacked out hood in that year. I had a non-Cobra 429 in a 71 GT. That damn thing liked gas, but it would run. It was the cream color with black interior. I had a grabber blue 71 also, with the magnums, 351C 4v. I've had at least 8 Torinos in my life. 6-71's, 1-70 and 1-68. I still want a 72 FB. I found one, but it was way too far gone to think of repairing, at least up here.
My neighbor has an 87 GNX, (one of 583 made) a few doors down from me. It was stolen last summer. They pulled up with a place at night, rolled the car down the street, and loaded it onto a car trailer. He got it back 2 weeks later with almost 1000 miles on it. The front end was damaged, and the left quarter panel had a dent. All in all, not a bad as one would have thought by looking at it. The insurance on it paid out 5700 to repair the car. It was torn up underneath, so they paid for the suspension repairs. They still got off cheap, vs replacement value. The guy doesn't have a dime to his name, but he has a 40k GNX. Go figure. LOL
One day I hope to take this ugly duckling to some cruise ins.... but for now it's more wrenching time. Got the driver side finished. And the front of the passenger side. Progress is progress! Hopefully finishing it up late oct/ early nov cz between now and then it's baby time. Bags are packed and car seat in the car, just waiting!
Yeah... they are some sweet cars. Never rode in an actual GNX, but I did ride in a T-Type (WE2 pkg). Pretty cool car. The Dad of a different Buddy owned that T-Type, then traded it for a 91 Firebird Formula SLP - and the mother trucker was QUICK.
She'll get there 2100 - the journey of getting it there is most of the fun.
I'll offer you a little advice, being the Father of three.... sleep as much as you can NOW, because after the baby is born, your ***** is up all night, LOL.
