I worked for a quality company that catered to the big 3 parts chain.
We got an hr. drive time there and 1 hr. drive time back.
4 hrs. minimum for just showing up.
But that only lasted for about a yr.
We had people that would drive around to different jobs, sign in and then leave when they were not needed and charge the company more drive time and another 4 hrs. by going to a different job sight.
Eventually the company got smart and we only got the 2 hrs. drive time, and one 4 hr. show up per 24 hr. period.
So basically, if I got called out to a plant to rectify a quality issue, and the problem was not with the part my supplier supplied I left with 6hrs. on the clock.
You can thank the unions for those perks. lol

Huh, When I was in the local 666 (yep, that's their real number) they tried to pay apprentices less than the federal minimum wage and says we couldn't do anything about it as it was a temporary concession for the entire local until times got better. As a time reference, that was in 1980.
I left the union after 2 years when this happened and got double what they paid apprentices. Never looked back. I ain't gonna thank them either.
If this is politics, feel free to delete it.
Edit
Oh yeah, That was a union contractor, I was an apprentice, and the company getting screwed was Phillip Morris.
The contractor would also bill them 2 hrs each way from the shop when we traveled from a plant to another when the plants were across the street. Maury street in Richmond, Va.
Most of their plants are apartments and stuff now but that is another story on exporting jobs.

For my '01 F150 5.4 4x4 I can use my very average hand. Mind you, I don't overtighten. I count the number of bevels and tighten one bevel at a time, counting w my thumb... once I've oiled the rubber seal, well, and rocked the filter to know exactly when I have taken all the threads up, except for the last ~ 2/3rds turn. I won't accept 1/2 nor exceed 3/4s.
Not an excess of room in there... but doing these lil things without a tool reminds me that I can claim I'm a guy, at least until my next birthday. Modern F150's, maybe no space... dunno. I also scratch the mo, yr, and mileage on the btm of the can.

Bill,
Isn't the filter right behind the bumper? or are 97 4WDs the only ones with a super simple LOF?

Sorta, Dvr side. Not too far back. Been a while. Almost due, but gonna chg the eng v soon. Been lagging on that. IF I got a tool, I think it would *almost* have to be one that a ratchet had a center point like a big socket. Maybe some straps might fit. One was shown earlier that uses a tightener that would act like an extension to a ratchet, rather than on the same plane as the strap like most straps, but I can't relocate it. Those may work. I keep a clean filter, so my hand doesn't slip. A toss'able glove helps if the oil is really hot. I need the semi-annual exercise anyway. Fewer tools to fetch, clean, etc.

My 97 is on the block. Easily the worst oil filter I've ever done. BUT, I also don't have oil cooler hoses that can leak... like my 98 Expy.

They were a bit of a pain to change on the engine side. Pretty easy on the bumper end.
Still rather spend two hours changing hoses once every 20 years than a filter up there every couple months.
Now an XLT in Colorado
We need rain, but not all at once, dammit. It's slowed down. At one point it was 2 inches per hour.

Yes, on the block on my '01, 5.4. "Behind the bumper," threw me. I could picture it, but I've not seen one, "remoted," to "behind the bumper." Makes me think of those toilet paper roll types, Frantz??? that were all the rage in magazines, eons ago, which got mounted underhood, wherever. Of course, modern trucks have no, wherever room. They were interesting, but I'd want a normal filter downstream of them. 🧐

Right behind the front bumper. Great place for maint.
No toilet paper. Also comes with an oil cooler /warmer that exchanges heat with the engine coolant.
Edit:
I just noticed I'm missing a bolt from the skid plate. I gotta look into that tomorrow.
