Default Tailgate

Well, I bought a 2000 F150 a couple of weeks ago. The first time I needed to lower the taigate, the latch seems to lift normally, but the gate is still "locked" up. Anybody have any thoughts?

Either that or just yank up on it a couple of times. Same thing happens to mine.

I know that on my truck one of the latch cables came undone, and wouldn't unlatch. Try checking those.

had the same issue when i got my truck. It doesn't hurt to remove the plate to check the cables

Thanks...I didn't kno how to get to the cables. I'll try to figure that out. Sounds logical from the way it's acting.

Thanks much...I'm not sure where the "plate" is, but I'll do some more checking. Thanks again.

My 2000 sometimes does this usually if you pull up a little harder on the side of the handle that is closer to the driver's side it opens right up, YMMV on that though.

Thanks...I finally pulled the inside panel off, but couldn't really see anything wrong except the center assembly didn't seem to be pulling the rods far enough to release the outer latches. I kept jerking on the handle and suddenly I realized it had released. I'm leaving it down for now, but will "work" on it more today. I'll still try your idea. Thanks again....
