Default Superchip question

I have a 97 f150, and I've been wanting to add a superchip in my truck. How exactly do you add the superchip? I have a good bit of experience with mechAnic work, but not to familiar with installing superchips. Also, is there any other engine work that needs to be done along with the chip? All answers are appreciated

Superchips? like the brand superchips? its a hand held console that u plug into your OBDII port and tunes from there, and no motor work necessary. just plug and play

Superchip also makes a piggy back that you plug into the computer by removeing the harness plug, plug in the chip and then plug the harness into the chip takes about a minute bubbabudNote for use on older trucks like your 97.

Thats what I was told, basically just a plug in deal lol. But I was talking about a chip, not necessarily superchip brand, wasn't clear on that. Y'all know any good brands for the chips? And the usual price range? Sorry for all the questions

Do not waste your time on "chips". The PCM controls most every function, which is why PCM programmers will make gains, chips that attempt to fool the MAF or ECU do not.

I was also told that. programmers seem more worth the money. a few of my buddies have programmers and I can tell the difference. Never seen what superchips really do. So any certain brand you prefer? And is istalling them difficult?

Superchips is just the brand, most of their models are flash programmers. Read post #4 in the link for my suggestions.

I have a SuperChips flash pak. Works just fine, but it's more of a toss in the glovebox in between uses type if unit. I really like Bully Dog programmers. They can actually mount in the cab and provide accurate, real time gauges and performance data... plus alternate engine tunes. Not sure of the price difference though.

The old Bully Dogs for the 97 shift the trans and show what the truck does, it can't program. It is a parasite.
