Default Supercharged?

I have a 2002 F-150 5.4 4x4 and I'm looking at having a shop order me a whipple 2.3L. With the supercharger I'm doing upgraded injectors and a upgraded fuel pump then finishing it off with a nice tune. My question is what else would you all recommend to do to the engine or tranny to run this safely. Also, what amount of boost can I run safely without doing any other modifications? I will do forged internals if I have to but would rather stay away from that for now. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks in advance

Go ahead and get a shift kit for your trans. I'm assuming you have the 4r70w and it will be your weak link now. Iirc a lot of guys keep their boost on a stock engine under 12 psi.

I do have the 4R70W. I figured I would have to do some work with the tranny but I'm so confused because some say I need to and others say it's fine stock if I don't cross the 450rwhp line. So you think 10 psi would be a safe number? What kind of hp and tq can I expect from this set up?

This is a good example of a build on a stock setup. He used an Eaton 112 but boost outcome vs. hp and tq. numbers should be the same.

He ran it for a good long while, considering his truck had 150,xxx miles on it when the swap was done, until he finally swapped in a built trans.

Especially on a completely stock engine and trans.

That's what I'm saying! I would love to see his track times and 0-60.

The 2.3L Whipple can make tons of power! Honestly I would suggest you just bolt a Lightning blower onto it. You can make more than enough power to blow the stock motor but still make plenty power safely, it's also a lot cheaper.

I did this on my 03 FX4 Supercrew. It was lifted in 38s and was running 12# of boost. It laid down 317RWHP/402RWTQ keep in mind the 38s and 20" wheels "eat" a lot of power so with that being said with stockish sized tires I think(based off other trucks with stock tires) it would be close to 400rwhp.

The truck weighted 6800lbs and ran a best of 14.56@91MPH and a best of 2.08 60'

You can do a blower swap for 2-3K if you shop around for parts.

Your going to really want to install a Shift Kit and Tranny cooler along with all the other mods needed for the L blower swap. Also find a tuner that has tuned many Lightnings and 02/03 Harley's I don't suggest you go to a mustang tuner that claims he can tune trucks. JJ@WMS is who I suggest.
