Default Summit Headers VS, Stock

Hey Gang:

Looks like my headers are going bad. I am looking for a decent set but would like a few more ponies with it. 2001 F150 5.4 4x4.

Wondering if there will be much of a difference using the Summit product.

Anyone have any feedback?

Appreciate it,

JD

Your truck already has headers or you mean exhaust manifolds headers are a start to a better performing engine go for it

Especially with a stock exhaust system headers don't do much, but if you plan on doing more exhaust modifications it's a good place to start. Plus headers are generally a little cheaper than manifolds anyway so go for it.

Im guessing you are referring to stock exhaust manifolds. No one really calls them headers unless they are aftermarket. And how are they going bad??

And in my opinion headers are a waste and gains will be minimal in any vehicle, unless going with longtubes. They do weigh significantly less, but in a truck Im guessing that isnt your main concern.

Then you'll notice more out of the headers than on a stock system, but the biggest restriction on our exhaust system is the part where the cats "Y" into one pipe. I haven't done this yet, but you can get magnaflow "Y"s and re-make it to flow much better. Also if you want to break some laws you can remake the whole Y-pipe with hi-flow Magnaflow cats instead of the 4 stock ones in it and make a real nice high flowing system.

I've got cheapo Pacesetter shorties and stock back to a Flowmaster 40 dual outlet. All stock size 2.5" pipe, and I like the sound and performance of my truck. If I have a cat go bad I'll probably re-do the Y pipe with two magnaflows and the new Y but until then I'm gonna just go with what I've got.
